A Powerful Focus on Parks, Trails and Natural Areas

The Intertwine Alliance is a growing coalition of public, private and nonprofit partners working to preserve and nurture a healthy regional system of parks, trails and natural areas across the greater Portland-Vancouver area—including the Tualatin River Watershed.

Tree for All is part of The Intertwine’s project network. In fact, Tree for All partners are well represented on The Alliance’s Conservation Working Group. The coalition’s strategic goals—including developing a regional vision for conservation and raising $1 billion in funding for parks, trails and natural areas—align and overlap with Tree for All partner goals and efforts in the Tualatin River Watershed.

The Alliance organizes an annual summit that brings people together from across its network, along with year-long, peer-learning cohorts focused on advancing equity.  Staff produce and maintain an event calendar that collects and promotes conservation- and outdoor-related events from organizations across the region.

The Alliance’s conservation work aims to engage a clear vision and strategy based on science-based approaches to protect and enhance the region’s wildlife habitat, water quality and other vital ecosystems.

Over a two-year period, The Intertwine Alliance convened partner organizations large and small to develop the Regional Conservation Strategy. Published in 2012, that plan now serves as a “modern-day ‘owner’s manual’ to guide the expansion, restoration and management of the region’s network of parks, trails, natural areas and healthy watersheds.” Its associated interactive tools provide easy access to data for Tree for All partner organizations and interested members of the public. The Intertwine Alliance’s 2019 strategic plan calls for an audit of the RCS to determine next steps needed for full implementation.
